What is Low Residency?Master of Fine Arts in Creative WritingA low residency degree program is designed for the mature, independent adult who cannot relocate and "leave personal and professional life behind" to pursue graduate studies. The low residency program requires two ten-day intensive on-site residency periods each year followed by semester courses conducted online. The WWW program, while designed to be completed in two years, is flexible for the student who needs to spread coursework over three, or even four, years. The MFA in Creative Writing is a program intended for those who have already demonstrated advanced ability in the writing of fiction, poetry or non-fiction written for adults or children. The program offers a mix of workshops, courses in craft, and directed reading. The program culminates in the preparation of a publishable manuscript. Students in the low-residency program will participate in workshops, craft courses and intensive readings through an online system. Each term (fall, spring) is preceded by a ten-day intensive residency on Whidbey Island. |
